Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, one of the most senior religious figures in the Muslim world, received Project Aladdin’s President and Executive Director in Rome on Thursday, October 7, 2021, for an in-depth discussion on the current state of interreligious dialogue, the need to combat extremism and radicalization, as well as the relations between the Muslim world and the West.
The Grand Imam expressed his support for the work of Project Aladdin to promote interfaith understanding and cooperation. He cited numerous examples in Islamic texts and Prophet Mohammed’s traditions that show Islam’s respect for “the People of the Book”. He instructed his aides to continue exchanges with representatives of Project Aladdin to launch a joint effort to educate young theologians of the three monotheistic faiths about the religion of the Other.
