Developing a Tolerance Education Program for K-6 Schools

How and when do you start teaching children about diversity, about differences in physical appearance, ethnicity, religion, or culture? An expert committee chaired by Prof. Rachid Benmokhtar, former Minister of Education of Morocco and a board member of Project Aladdin, is developing a program to teach the basics of dialogue, respect and diversity to children in kindergartens and primary schools.

The project evolved from the recommendations of a meeting of the Ministers of Education of a dozen countries from Europe, Africa and the Middle East that Project Aladdin organized in Paris in November 2019. Chaired by French Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Jean-Michel Blanquer, the meeting brought together Ministers, policy planners and educators to discuss the best practices in using education to counter intolerance and extremism.
